P-SHIELD® Foam Tapes

P-SHIELD® Foam Tapes
Many of Polymer Science’s products offer multipurpose functions to help manufacturing and design processes. The primary design brief for P-SHIELD® foam tapes and gaskets is to provide grounding and EMI shielding, but the added qualities of conforming and compression are necessary to evolving electric devices. Polymer Science constructs a variety of foam tapes using conductive acrylic PSA laminated to conductive silicone foams, electrically conductive polyurethane foams and conductive polyolefin foams.
Most elastomers including silicones, polyurethanes and polyolefin are electrical insulators. Polymer Science improves the conductivity of these materials with copper and nickel plating and laminating with a conductive acrylic PSA. The resulting P-SHIELD® foams offer excellent low compression and high electrical conductivity in the X, Y and Z axes. Our foam tapes effectively shield interference and compress to fill gaps within housings. Foam also conforms to sensitive components to provide protection and shock absorption in mobile devices.
With a wide range of compression force profiles, P-SHIELD® foam materials have many applications within electric vehicles (EV), wearable devices, smart appliances, smartphones, tablets, computers and other devices. With so many applications and unique designs, Polymer Science has foams ranging from soft to more rigid within our most common products.
One of our most popular products is PS-1323. This conductive foam is a 0.2mm – 4.0mm conductive acrylic adhesive multi-laminate with a soft conductive nickel and copper plated polyurethane foam carrier containing a copper nickel mesh core. This product demonstrates the versatility and multipurpose quality of our foam tapes; providing shielding in all directions; conforming to fill gaps; and protecting components through shock absorption.
Foam is a workhorse within electronic devices. Exceptionally lightweight, P-SHIELD® foams are constructed to be durable, robust materials and ideal converting solutions.
